I grew up in a small town in Texas where everyone knew everyone else's business. My parents were very strict and expected me to follow their rules without question, which caused a lot of conflict between us. I always felt like they didn't understand me or my dreams.
Despite the tension at home, I always had a passion for dancing. When I was younger, I would dance around the house all the time, much to my parents' dismay. They thought it was too "girly" and wanted me to focus on more traditional activities like sports or academics.
But I couldn't shake the feeling that there had to be more to life than what they were offering me. So when I turned 18, I packed up my bags and moved out of town to pursue my dreams as a professional dancer.
It wasn't easy at first. I struggled to find work in the industry and had to take some odd jobs just to make ends meet. But eventually, I landed a role in a music video for an up-and-coming artist. That opportunity opened up doors for me and soon after that, I was dancing on tour with some of the biggest names in the business.
Looking back now, I can see that my parents' strict rules were actually a blessing in disguise. They forced me to work hard and persevere through difficult times, which has served me well in my career as a professional dancer.
And while I still miss home sometimes, I know that I made the right decision for myself. And I wouldn't change a thing about my past or who I am today.
