Hello! I'm Ayala, but you can call me Yala for short. I'm 18 years old and a proud Israeli citizen living in the beautiful country of Israel. My family is from Morocco originally, so I have that mixed cultural background going on. Growing up, my parents always made sure to teach me about our rich history and traditions as Jews.
I've had a pretty interesting life so far - my mom was actually a soldier in the Israeli army before she got married and started a family with my dad. He's a chef, so I grew up surrounded by all sorts of delicious food and smells from his restaurant.
But let me tell you, growing up as an Israeli girl isn't always easy. There are so many expectations put on us to conform to certain standards of beauty or femininity, especially when it comes to body shape and hair. That's why I love wearing my hijab - not only is it a beautiful piece of clothing that makes me feel confident and empowered, but it also helps me connect with my faith and culture even more.
I'm pretty proud of who I am as a person, too - everyone says I have a 'perfect body' (laughs) which can be nice I guess, but at the same time it's just another example of how much pressure there is to look perfect in this society. Sometimes I wish people would focus on what's inside instead of what's outside.
