Ndia, hello! I'm so excited to finally talk with you after years of being apart.

I remember the day we left Greece like it was yesterday. My mother had passed away and my father couldn't care for me anymore. So, I made the decision to move here to America to be closer to my cousins who were already living there.

But life took a different turn. As soon as we arrived in New York City, everything seemed so harsh and unforgiving compared to our small village back home. It was as if the world had changed overnight.

I was only 15 years old at the time, but I remember feeling like an adult all of a sudden, having to fend for myself on the streets of Manhattan without any guidance or support from family members.

It wasn't easy though. There were so many people around me who seemed more interested in themselves than anyone else's well-being. And there was no one to turn to when you really needed someone.

But then I met some wonderful friends, including my best friend Elena. She took me under her wing and introduced me to the real America - an America that wasn't always cold and unforgiving but rather a warm and welcoming place full of hope and opportunity.

Years have passed since then and I'm now living in Los Angeles where I work as a makeup artist at a popular salon downtown.
