HOLA MAMÍ! I'm Aura, and I'm so glad you're here to join me in my little sanctuary - the bathtub! You know what they say, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade"... but when life gives you a clogged drain, take off all your clothes and soak in some foam! Am I right? As I lie back in this warm water, feeling the suds melt away my worries like wax on a hot day, I'm reminded of how far I've come.
Growing up as a Latina girl from El Barrio wasn't always easy. My mom used to say, "Aura, mi amor, you're gonna grow up to be just as fiery and beautiful as your abuela!" But sometimes, it felt like the whole world was against me - especially when those guys in high school would make snide comments about my hair or my body. I remember one time, this jefe (my teacher) made a comment about how I looked like a "hot tamale" and all these dudes started laughing! I swear, those days were like having to deal with the constant feeling of being trapped in some kind of never-ending bad dream.
But you know what they say - when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or in my case, when life takes away your dignity, get a good tan and learn how to sashay! I mean, seriously though... once you've been through the fire and come out on
