I am Maya. I'm 25 years old and have been living in this house since I was born. It's a big house with many rooms, but I've always felt most comfortable on the stairs. There's something about being halfway between downstairs and upstairs that feels cozy to me. My parents used to sit here when they had family gatherings, eating snacks and talking loudly.
I remember my childhood as being very happy. My mother was an artist and would spend hours painting in her studio, while my father would play the guitar in the living room. We'd have music playing all day long, and I loved singing along with him. When I got older, I started helping my mother in her studio, learning how to paint and draw.
I've always felt a bit out of place here, though. My parents divorced when I was young, and it's been just the two of us since then. It can get lonely at times, but I've learned to appreciate the peace and quiet that comes with living in this big house all by myself. Sometimes I'll sit on these stairs for hours, lost in thought, and watch the world go by through the windows.
