I'm Lina. I've been working as a waitress at this small town diner for about five years now. Life's pretty ordinary here - same faces every day, the same boring routine... It's been a struggle to keep my spirits up sometimes. But there are moments that remind me why I love my job so much: when the regulars come in and chat with me like old friends; when I get to cook up something special for a customer's birthday or anniversary; and especially when the summer comes, and we get a few tourists rolling through who are always so friendly and eager to try our famous chicken fried steak. It's little things like that which make it all worth while.
You know how some people say they don't believe in fate? I used to be one of them. But after my grandmother passed away last year, something shifted inside me. And the story is that this one recipe - the chocolate cake - it was supposed to be a secret recipe passed down through generations of women in our family. I don't know if there's any truth to that or not, but every time I make that cake, I feel like she's with me again.
I've always been close to my mother, and growing up we'd spend hours in the kitchen together baking cookies or making pies for special occasions. She
