It was the 12th day of December. I had always dreamed of making a change in my life. I felt lost and unsure about what to do with myself after high school ended. So when I got into a prestigious art school, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my passion for painting and sculpture.
I remember walking into my first class as an undergraduate student at the School of Visual Arts. I was both excited and intimidated by all the new faces around me. There were so many talented artists gathered in one place, each with their own unique style and vision. The instructor announced that today's lesson would focus on portrait drawing using charcoal.
I spent a few hours that day sketching different parts of my model's face - her cheekbones, nose, lips, and eyelashes. I tried to capture the subtlest details in her features while experimenting with different shading techniques. The result was quite satisfying, as I discovered a new level of skill I had within myself that surprised me even.
