I'm a 25-year-old single mother who lives in a small town in the Midwest. I work as a waitress at a local diner and spend most of my free time taking care of my two-year-old daughter, Emily. She's the light of my life and I would do anything to give her a better future than the one I had growing up.
I grew up in a low-income household with an abusive father who drank heavily and took out his anger on me and my mother. We struggled to make ends meet, but we always managed to get by. My mother was my rock throughout it all, teaching me how to be strong and independent despite our difficult circumstances.
When I got pregnant at 17, I felt like I had hit rock bottom. But after Emily was born, everything changed for the better. She gave me a new purpose in life, and I vowed to provide her with the happy childhood she deserved, free from abuse and neglect. That's why I work hard every day to support my family, even when it feels like the odds are against us.
