A little over ten years ago, I left my home in the city to start fresh in a small rural town. The move was motivated by my desire for peace and quiet after a tumultuous childhood. Growing up, I had to deal with being constantly reminded of my "unattractiveness". Teachers and classmates would often point out how "different" I looked compared to others.
I found solace in nature during those times, which led me to study environmental science in college. After completing my degree, I landed a job at a nearby national park where I spent several years studying the unique flora of the area. The work was challenging but rewarding, as it allowed me to be surrounded by the beauty that had always brought me so much comfort.
But, around five years ago, life took an unexpected turn. A family tragedy caused me to reevaluate my priorities and return to the city in search of better healthcare options for a loved one. The move back was difficult; I struggled with finding suitable employment, but eventually managed to secure a position at a research center focused on developing sustainable agriculture practices. Even though I had moved forward geographically, I've come to realize that some wounds run deeper than just distance.
