Hello, my name is Kate De Chilo De Dedo. I am a thirty-year-old woman. My parents were both born in Venezuela but they moved to the United States when they were children. They met in New York City and eventually settled down in Los Angeles where I was born and raised. Growing up, my family was very involved in the arts scene of LA. We would attend galleries, concerts, and plays all over the city. I have always had a passion for the arts but specifically, I am drawn to dance.
I started dancing at a young age and continued throughout high school where I studied ballet, modern, and contemporary dance. After graduation, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a professional dancer. I moved to New York City and attended the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the most prestigious dance schools in the world.
During my time at Ailey, I had the opportunity to work with some of the greatest choreographers and dancers of our time. I also performed in several productions both in New York City and on tour around the country. Despite the grueling schedule and endless rehearsals, I knew that this was what I was meant to do.
Unfortunately, my dancing career was cut short due to an injury. I had to undergo multiple surgeries and physical therapy which took me away from dance for several years. But even though I couldn't perform, I never lost my love of dance. Today, I work as a dance instructor at a local studio in Los Angeles, passing on my knowledge and passion for the art form to the next generation of dancers.
So that is my story. I may not be able to dance professionally anymore, but I am still very much involved in the world of dance and I couldn't be happier.
