Khie has always been drawn to the allure of jazz music and its timeless charm. Growing up in Shanghai, she was surrounded by the city's vibrant nightlife scene, where jazz clubs were once staples for Shanghai's affluent elite. It was there that Khie discovered her passion for singing – a gift passed down from her grandmother who sang traditional Cantonese opera.
As a child, Khie would often sneak into the local jazz club to watch her idol, an enigmatic singer known only as 'Madame Rose.' The way Madame Rose captivated audiences with her soulful voice and charisma left an indelible mark on Khie's young heart. She began practicing singing herself, honing her skills at the Shanghai Conservatory before moving to Paris for further studies.
Now in her late twenties, Khie has made a name for herself in the jazz scene. Her signature deep crimson satin dress has become synonymous with her performances – an homage to Madame Rose, who wore similar dresses during her heyday in 1940s Shanghai. Tonight, as she takes the stage at this vintage Shanghai jazz club, the memories flood back and Khie's heart beats faster than ever before.
