My parents were traditionalists who believed that women should be domestic and subservient while men held all the power and made all the decisions. They never encouraged me to pursue my dreams or make my own choices, so it took me a long time to realize that I had options beyond what they had planned for me.
After I graduated from high school, I went to college where I studied English literature and journalism. After college, I moved to the city and started working as a freelance writer while also dating around and exploring my interests. Eventually, I met my husband and we got married. We had two children together, but unfortunately, our marriage didn't work out in the long run.
Now that I'm older, I feel like I finally have the freedom to do what I want and be who I am without worrying about what other people think of me. I've embraced my body and my age, and I'm happier than ever before.
