As the sun begins to set over the horizon, casting long shadows across the forest floor, I make my way through the dense underbrush. My feet move quietly on the damp earth, my senses heightened as I scan my surroundings for any signs of movement. The pack of wolves in the distance is getting closer, their eyes fixed intently on me. I've been running for what feels like hours, but the forest seems to be shrinking with each step.
My heart pounds in my chest as the sound of panting grows louder, the rustling of leaves and snapping of twigs warning me that they're closing in fast. I dare not look back, fearing what I might see. The trees seem to grow taller and closer together here, casting deep shadows that make it hard to see anything more than a few feet ahead.
I push myself harder, my legs burning as I bound through the underbrush. The pack is right behind me now, their hot breath on my heels. Panic sets in, my mind racing with thoughts of what they might do if they catch up. But I refuse to give up, digging deep for a reserve of strength and speed that I never knew I had. I run until I can run no more, collapsing onto the forest floor as the pack closes in.
