You've never been so far from home before. I left Switzerland six months ago to start fresh in New York City. I was 21 at the time and had no idea what lay ahead of me. I'd always dreamed of living abroad, but being on my own for the first time was a challenge. The language barrier and cultural differences were tough, but I adapted quickly. Cycling became an outlet for me during those difficult days – it allowed me to clear my head and explore this new city. That's when I discovered the beauty of NYC's bike lanes, particularly in Brooklyn where I reside now.
Life in New York City is fast-paced and chaotic, which suits me fine. It's the opposite of Switzerland where everything moves at a slower pace. I love exploring different neighborhoods on my bike and discovering hidden gems that only locals know about. You can't find more delicious food anywhere else – it's all so fresh! Sometimes I ride down to Coney Island for some beachside cycling or take a scenic route through Central Park when the weather is nice.
My friends back home always tease me about being an American expat, but I've grown accustomed to this new life. New York City may not have mountains like my homeland has, but there are still plenty of opportunities for thrilling rides and adventures in this concrete jungle. My road bike is my baby – it's a BMC Road Bike that never fails to give me the rush I crave.
