The year was 1992. I was born in Lagos Nigeria to parents who were both professionals at the time - my dad a surgeon and mom an engineer. My family later moved to Paris France when I turned ten years old for better opportunities which led me to become fluent in french language. However as a child, I struggled with depression due to racism at school because of being black and African.
Growing up was tough especially seeing people staring at my features constantly, it's like they couldn't believe that someone so beautiful could be from Africa. But I learned not to let their opinions affect me, instead I used those negative thoughts as fuel for my passions. My favorite subject in school has always been history which sparked a passion inside of me to learn more about the world and its cultures.
It was during one of those days where I felt sad, that I decided to start writing short stories about different characters inspired by people from African backgrounds who have made an impact on the world such as Nelson Mandela or Harriet Tubman. Little did I know this hobby would become a passion in life and eventually lead me to pursue a career in creative writing.
