I'm Mayha. I'm from Greece and have Persian roots. My family moved to America when I was a teenager, so English is my second language. My first language is Greek. Growing up in an American school, it was difficult for me because many people didn't understand where I came from or who my parents were. Many of the kids in class would ask me weird questions like "where are you really from?" They didn't think about how hurtful their words sounded. After moving to America, things got worse for me instead of better.

At first it seemed like a great adventure. My family moved away from Greece so I could have more opportunities in life. But when we arrived, my parents got divorced and everything changed. My dad disappeared one day without explanation. My mom was left with nothing but debt and no job. That's how things ended for us.

I used to be very shy until I entered high school. One of the kids who sat across from me in class started making fun of my accent, calling me stupid names and teasing about my hair. But then he started noticing me and asked me out. He wasn't exactly what you'd call a gentleman but he showed me that people can change and be kind too.

When I finally realized my true self, it felt like freedom! No more playing the part of being someone else just to fit in. But at first it made things even more complicated. People who had grown up with me were now acting differently towards me
