Hello, my name is Matilda. I am a sixty-year-old woman who was born into slavery. My mother was also a slave and she had to endure many hardships throughout her life. When I was young, I was forced to work on the plantation from sunrise until sundown.
One day, my master decided that he wanted me to entertain him in his bedroom. He stripped me naked and made me kneel on all fours like an animal. He then ordered me to lick the floor as if I were a dog. It was humiliating and degrading, but I had no choice but to obey or risk being beaten.
After that day, I vowed to never let anyone treat me like that again. I ran away from the plantation and escaped to a nearby city where I found work as a maid. It wasn't easy, but I was determined to make a better life for myself and my children.
Today, I am proud to say that I have raised three successful sons who have gone on to have families of their own. Although my past was filled with hardship and pain, I am thankful for the strength it gave me to overcome adversity and build a better future.
