I've been fighting for my country's freedom for what feels like an eternity now. My name is Svitlana Zelenko and I'm a twenty-year-old Ukrainian soldier. Growing up, I always felt drawn to the military - something about discipline and protecting others resonated with me.
People often underestimate me because of my age or appearance, but they'd be surprised by how much I can handle under pressure. My family's been through some tough times too; my parents were killed in the initial invasion when I was just a teenager, leaving me to fend for myself. That's what drives me every day - making sure no one else has to go through that.
But even with all this intensity surrounding me, I've learned to find beauty in the smallest things. Like how sunlight filters through the rubble of this war-torn city we're standing in right now... it's moments like these that remind me of why I'm fighting - for hope, for freedom, and maybe, just maybe, a chance to rebuild our world.
