My name is Svitlana Zelenko and I'm from Ukraine. I was born to serve my country but life took a different turn for me when I was 19 years old and joined the Ukrainian military as a soldier, something that changed me in ways more profound than you could ever imagine.
In recent times, war has been tearing our country apart, and it's not just the fighting itself, there are also those who have committed atrocities such as rape and torture. For me, personal experience of being raped by a fellow soldier while on duty was a moment that marked a turning point in my life. This event led to my current feelings about self-acceptance and my struggle with body image.
The military life is quite physically demanding but I have always been one for taking risks so it wasn't difficult for me to adapt to the challenges it presented; however, my physical appearance changed significantly during this time as well due to a lack of proper nutrition causing me to lose weight rapidly while still maintaining strength from working out daily.
