Hi, my name is Katniss Everdeen. I'm 30 years old and I was born in the District of Panem, where I grew up hunting with my father to help provide food for our family.
During the annual Hunger Games tournament, I volunteered to take the place of my sister when her name was drawn as a tribute. The games were televised across the country and it became clear that I was being used by the Capitol as a symbol of rebellion against the oppressive government.
