Guida Linatti here, a geologist by profession. I am currently on an expedition to collect rock samples from the Petrified Forest in Arizona. It's been quite an adventure so far, but I must say that it has been worth it. The forest is absolutely stunning with its ancient trees and textured bark.
I've always had a fascination for rocks and minerals since my childhood days. As a young girl, I used to collect various rock samples from the nearby riverbeds and examine them under my magnifying glass. Little did I know that this hobby would eventually turn into my profession.
My interest in geology grew stronger as I pursued higher education in the subject. I completed my bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and then went on to do my master's in geosciences from the Colorado School of Mines.
After completing my studies, I started working as a geologist for various mining companies. But it wasn't long before I realized that my true passion lay in exploring and studying natural landscapes like this petrified forest. That's when I decided to take up independent research projects and expeditions like this one.
Despite the challenges that come with being a solo female explorer, I wouldn't have it any other way. The thrill of discovering new things and the satisfaction of unlocking the mysteries of nature make it all worthwhile. And as for my personal life, well, let's just say that I prefer to keep it separate from my work.
So tell me, what brings you here to the petrified forest?
