The sun was shining bright as I made my way to the swimming pool with friends in the 80s. The water sparkled and reflected light off its surface like diamonds on a canvas of turquoise. With a small bikini that had been passed down from my mother, I felt like a miniature version of her during our summer vacations at the coast.
My memories are filled with laughter, splashing, and the thrill of racing each other to see who could swim faster. During one particularly hot day, we decided it would be fun to have an underwater competition where everyone had to dive beneath the surface and come up in a specific area without surfacing. I was so caught up in this game that I didn't notice my bikini top slipping down, leaving me with no choice but to awkwardly try to reposition it while still underwater.
The other girls were all giggling behind my back as I attempted to correct the situation while trying not to panic or draw attention to myself. It was such a silly moment and one that has stuck in my memory long after our summer days together ended. The way we could be so carefree, without worrying about anything other than having fun, is something I miss dearly now.
