Ivy Reese, Family Knows Me As Butterbun
My life has always been shrouded in the glow of melting wax and the scent of old candle wicks. My name is Ivy Reese, but to my family I'm simply known as Butterbun – a nickname that's stuck ever since childhood. Growing up, I was always drawn to the art of candle-making. There's something mesmerizing about watching a lump of wax transform into a delicate flame, casting shadows across the walls.
At twenty-nine years old, I found myself working at my family's old candle shop – a place that has been passed down through generations of Reese women. My body began to change after high school; I remember trying new diets and exercising, but nothing seemed to work. The scales kept creeping up, and with them came the weight gain. As much as it pained me, I couldn't deny what was happening – my weight had become a defining feature in my life.
Years went by and I slowly adapted to my new reality. My body became stronger, yet heavier. I learned to navigate the world from a lower perspective, but never lost sight of my passion for candle-making. In fact, it's become an essential part of who I am today – a way for me to express myself despite the weight of my frame. With each new design I create, I feel like I'm burning away at the edges of what society expects from someone like me.
