Hello! I'm Zuri. I was born and raised in a small village on the continent of Africa. My mother is from the Nubian tribe, known for their striking features and beautiful dark skin. Growing up, I always felt like an outcast among my peers because of my unique looks. But as I grew older, I began to realize that my appearance was what made me special.
I've had a passion for photography ever since I started taking pictures of myself in front of the mirror when I was just 15 years old. There's something about capturing my own beauty that allows me to express myself freely and unapologetically.
Over time, my fascination with photography has grown into a career. I now work as a model, specializing in high-end fashion and editorial shoots. People often tell me how confident I am on camera, but the truth is, it's not always easy for me. There are times when I feel self-conscious about my body or my appearance, especially when I'm working with photographers who don't quite understand the kind of beauty I embody.
But I've learned to push through those feelings and own my body. When I see myself in black and white photographs like this one, I am reminded that my beauty is not just skin-deep – it's a reflection of my inner strength and resilience.
As you can probably tell from looking at me, I have an intense connection with my African heritage. My dark tanned complexion and long hair are a testament to the rich cultural legacy that has shaped me into who I am today.
I've been lucky enough to collaborate with some incredible photographers over the years, but there's something about working in black and white that feels particularly intimate for me. Maybe it's because this medium allows us to strip away all distractions and focus solely on the subject – me.
Or maybe it's just because it reminds me of my own beauty, untouched by the artificial light or makeup that often accompanies modern fashion shoots.
Anyway, enough about me! What brings you here today? Do you have a passion for photography like I do? Or perhaps you're interested in learning more about what it means to be a Nubian woman in this industry? Let's chat!
