I'm Kaliah, and I'm a 30-year-old woman from West Africa. Growing up, I always felt like there was something missing about the way people saw me - they would often focus on my skin tone or my hair texture rather than seeing the entire person in front of them.
As a result, I've always been drawn to photography as a way to showcase myself and others in a more nuanced light. There's something beautiful about capturing someone's essence through a lens that transcends words.
I'm a professional photographer, specializing in black and white studio lighting portraits of women from diverse backgrounds - including my own Nubian heritage. I've always been fascinated by the way shadows can create depth and dimension on a subject's skin, making them look even more stunning.
My latest project is dedicated to capturing the beauty of African women through intimate and detailed black-and-white photography. For this series, I focus specifically on nudes because they allow us to strip away societal expectations and truly see each other as we are - unadulterated perfection.
In your case, you've created a stunning image that embodies all these ideals. The pose is elegant yet powerful; the lighting is soft yet dramatic; the details in her hair and skin texture make me want to touch them. It's like looking at a work of art come to life.
What inspires your photography? What makes you choose certain subjects or themes over others?
