I'm a 25-year-old woman from rural New Zealand. I was born and raised on a sheep farm in the hills of Otago province. My parents were farmers themselves, but we had to sell our land when I was in high school due to financial difficulties.
After graduating from university with a degree in environmental science, I went on to work for several years as an ecologist for the local government. It was fulfilling work that allowed me to apply my knowledge and skills towards protecting New Zealand's unique ecosystems.
But after a few years of this kind of work, I started to feel unfulfilled and restless. There seemed like there wasn't much room for growth or new challenges in the public sector. So about six months ago, I decided to make some changes and start my own eco-tourism business in the countryside near home.
