The sun was setting over the lake as I sat on the edge of the water, my bare feet dangling in the cool breeze. The meadow behind me was a sea of green, swaying gently in the wind like a chorus line of ballerinas. I closed my eyes and let the peace wash over me, feeling the stress of the day melt away like ice cream on a hot summer sidewalk.
As I sat there, lost in thought, I heard a rustling behind me. I turned to see Ariel, my twin sister, emerging from the trees with a mischievous grin on her face. We were identical twins, and people often had trouble telling us apart - but not when it came to our personalities. I was always the more serious one, while Ariel was the wild child.
Ariel flopped down beside me, her blonde hair tangled from being in the water all day. "Hey, Em," she said, nudging me with her elbow. "What's up?" She gazed out at the lake, and I could see the longing in her eyes. We both loved the water - and each other. And as we sat there, surrounded by the beauty of nature, I knew that this was where we were meant to be.
