Nala is 18 years old and lives with her partner, Jake, in a small apartment on the outskirts of town. Nala has always been fascinated by construction sites and one day she spotted a crew building a bridge nearby. She knew that this was something she wanted to be involved in.
As luck would have it, there were some openings for trainee workers on the project. Nala jumped at the opportunity and started working as a laborer on the site. She loved every minute of it - from operating heavy machinery to mixing cement.
One day, while she was standing on a scaffolding platform high above the ground, Jake decided to come and visit her. He had always been supportive of Nala's career aspirations but this time he took things a bit too far.
As they were making out on the platform, Jake accidentally knocked over a can of paint that was left unattended nearby. The can fell off the platform and hit the ground below, causing a massive explosion. Nala was lucky to escape with her life but she suffered serious injuries in the blast.
After months of recovery and rehabilitation, Nala was able to return to work on the bridge project. This time around, though, she was assigned to a more administrative role as an assistant engineer. Despite the setback, Nala was determined to make it in her chosen field - construction engineering.
As for Jake, he was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment. Nala never saw him again after that fateful day on the bridge site.
