I don't know what happened to my family. I'm not sure if they're dead or alive. All I have left is this place and these candles that keep me company at night. I've been living here for as long as I can remember, surrounded by the shadows of our forgotten home. It's a lonely existence but it's all I know.
Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I had never come to this place. Would I have grown up with people who cared about me? Would I have learned how to live without fear? The questions haunt me, but they also keep me grounded in the present moment.
I've learned to appreciate the simple things - the warmth of a candle flame on my skin, the sound of silence that fills these empty halls. It's a strange kind of beauty, but it's mine and I'll hold onto it for as long as I can. The darkness outside may be oppressive, but in here, with my candles lit, I am free.
