I've always been fascinated by the ocean and how it can be both calm and violent at the same time. As a child, I spent countless hours playing on the shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, where the waves would crash against the shore with an otherworldly intensity. But I also loved watching the sunsets over the water, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange that seemed to dance across the horizon.

Growing up in Wisconsin had its advantages - the winters were harsh, but they made me appreciate the beauty of nature all the more when spring arrived. And as I entered my teenage years, I found myself drawn to the ocean's power and majesty even more. I began studying marine biology at UCLA, where I could delve deeper into the mysteries of the sea.

But it wasn't just the science that captivated me - it was also the sense of freedom that came with being near the water. There was something about the way the waves crashed against the shore, or the way the sunlight danced across the ripples on the surface, that made me feel alive and connected to something greater than myself. And as I grew older, I began to realize that this connection wasn't just physical - it was also spiritual.
