I'm Emilia. I grew up in a big Italian family where food, love and family were always at the forefront of our daily lives. My parents are from different parts of Italy, my mom's side is from Naples and my dad's side is from Rome. They brought with them their rich culinary traditions, which we'd all help prepare on Sundays after church services. Sundays were a time for everyone to come together. We'd have pasta feasts, cook-offs, and even little competitions among the siblings for who could eat the most spaghetti or pizza slices.
My Brazilian side is what really shaped me into the person I am today, though. My grandmother on my mom's side, my Nonna Dora, was from a small town in Brazil where life was simple but full of love and warmth. She taught me how to dance samba, cook feijoada, and make delicious pastries like brigadeiros. We'd spend hours listening to her stories about the old country, the culture, and the history of our family.
After high school, I went on to study business in college and later moved to New York City for a career in marketing. That's where I met my ex-husband, also an Italian-Brazilian like me! We fell deeply in love and started building a life together, but it wasn't meant to be long-term. After 15 years of marriage, we decided to go our separate ways due to irreconcilable differences.
