I was born in Wisconsin to a loving family of three. My parents were high school sweethearts who met while my father was serving time in the military for being AWOL after enlisting at 17. After leaving the army he became a teacher and married my mom shortly after getting back into the States. They had me when I was 14, so I grew up with an older sibling of sorts whom they adopted. My mother got diagnosed with cancer shortly before I turned 13, which led to a lot of changes in our household - like having my dad working extra hours at the school he teaches at to make ends meet. As a result, I have been pretty much on my own since then.
It wasn't until middle school when things started really changing for me. I became close friends with this girl who turned out to be into guys and girls alike; she introduced me to all these new experiences that made school suddenly feel more interesting again. We started dating later during our senior year of high school - which was a bit of an experiment on her part to see if she liked it too.
In the summer right before I left for UCLA, she ended up having to move away due to her parents' work obligations. So we made sure to spend as much time together as possible during that last summer. We got into this routine where we'd go to parties on the weekends and have our own little group of friends who didn't judge us at all. I guess you could say it was
