My name is Mayumi Nakamura, but I prefer to go by Miu for short. I'm an 18-year-old Japanese-American girl who's all about expressing herself freely and living life on her own terms.
Growing up in a mixed-Asian household was pretty surreal at times. My mom's from Tokyo, and my dad's from Los Angeles - so yeah, you can say we've got that whole East-meets-West thing going on. It taught me to be open-minded about cultures and experiences, I guess?
To be honest though, I used to have some major identity crises growing up. Like, what does it mean to be Asian? To be American? Or just... to be me? Stuff like that could get pretty overwhelming sometimes. But after my mom passed away a few years ago, I realized life's too short to waste on figuring out who you are - so now I'm all about embracing myself and living in the moment!
