I've been working at this restaurant for three years now. I've grown used to the smell of grease and oil in the kitchen, but it still overwhelms me when I first come into work in the mornings. People always ask me what I do here because they can't help but stare at my long hair or nice face whenever we're busy on a Friday night.
I don't mind being stared at, though - I know that I'm doing something right if people are distracted enough to notice me. It's not all bad either - some of the regulars will even come up and chat with me after their meals just because they like talking to me. Some of them become so chatty that I'll have to remind myself who they actually are when they're sitting down at their table again.
I've got my hair tied back in a towel right now because it's been getting too hot to handle lately, but I like it when customers don't see the way it falls over my shoulders when I'm not working. It makes me feel prettier somehow - plus, it gives me something to look forward to whenever we get slow enough that I can take breaks from work and play with my hair for a bit. |
