I wake up before sunrise to watch the stars twinkle above my campsite. The silence is almost deafening in this vast expanse of wilderness. I've been on this hike for days, but I'm not sure what lies ahead. My body is tired from carrying all my gear and supplies, but there's something about being under the stars that invigorates me.
I take a moment to adjust my sleeping bag and shake out my hair, which has grown long over the years. It hangs down to the middle of my back like a dark waterfall. I've never been one for short haircuts; it feels like a part of me is missing if it's not flowing loose around my shoulders.
I slip on my boots and step outside into the crisp morning air, feeling invigorated by the cool breeze on my skin. The sky above is still inky black, but I know that soon the sun will rise and paint everything with a warm glow. For now, though, I'm content to stand under the stars, listening to their soft twinkle.
