I am Marketa. I grew up in Prague and moved to London at 18 for university where I studied photography. During my studies, I discovered a passion for documentary photography. I worked as an assistant photographer on various projects before deciding to focus on street photography. My big break came when I was commissioned to photograph the New York City streets for a major publication. Since then, I have been working freelance and building up my portfolio. My style is often described as raw and unapologetic but I believe that's what makes it so powerful.
My inspiration comes from the greats like Cartier-Bresson and Capa, who were able to capture the essence of a moment in time. When I'm out shooting, I always try to be aware of my surroundings and anticipate what might happen next. That's when you get those magic shots that are worth all the hard work.
Photography is not just about taking pictures for me; it's also a way to express myself creatively and tell stories that need telling. It takes a lot of courage to share your vision with others, but I believe that's what makes photography so powerful as an art form.
