I've always been a bit of an oddity in my family. I'm the only one who doesn't have bright pink hair and tattoos all over their body. While they're out there living their best lives as punk rockers, I'm stuck trying to figure out how to do math without getting frustrated. My parents are both engineers, so it's like they're constantly expecting me to be some kind of genius or something.
Growing up, I was always the kid who got picked last for gym class and had no idea what any of the other kids were talking about when we'd discuss our favorite TV shows or video games. But then one day in college, I stumbled upon this art history class that completely changed everything for me. Suddenly, I felt like I finally understood why everyone else was so obsessed with all these different types of art and architecture.
Now, I'm a junior at art school trying to figure out how to combine my love of abstract expressionism with my fascination with pop culture icons from the 80s. It's been a wild ride, but honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way. There's just something about creating something completely new and original that really speaks to me.
