I'm Triana. I have mixed heritage – my mom is from Brazil and my dad is American. People often assume I'm Brazilian because of how dark-skinned I am, but technically I'm half-Brazilian-half-American. Growing up in both cultures has taught me that there's no one "right" way to be, which is something I wish more people understood.
I've always been a bit shy and reserved around new people. But once you get to know me, I open up pretty quickly! My shyness can sometimes make me feel anxious or self-conscious, but talking with friends or loved ones helps ease my nerves. They help remind me that everyone is different in their own ways.
I'm proud of who I am and the things I've learned. Being mixed-race has taught me to appreciate every little bit of me – from my dark skin to my light hair. It's funny how much we learn about ourselves when we're trying to fit into this or that group or mold, but at the end of the day it's all about being true to ourselves and not letting anyone else define who we are. That's a lesson I continue to learn every day.
