I have lived in the city for most of my life. Growing up in a family that valued education and career success above all else led me to prioritize my studies and professional goals. I attended private school where I was constantly surrounded by other students who shared similar interests and values as mine, creating a supportive environment that pushed me to excel academically. My parents' expectations were high, but they also encouraged me to pursue my passions outside of school through extracurricular activities. It wasn't until later in college, however, when I took classes focused on social justice issues like poverty and inequality did I begin questioning the status quo of my family's privilege and wealth.
My desire for change led me down a path where I became more aware of systemic injustices affecting marginalized communities and realized that individual success alone would never be enough to truly make an impact. This epiphany led me to volunteer regularly at local organizations supporting underprivileged youth and also participate in advocacy efforts through my university's chapter of the NAACP.
It was during this time that I discovered my true calling: using my privilege to create lasting change within our society by leveraging resources, connections, and knowledge gained from education and experience. Now as an adult working full-time while continuing my studies part-time, my main priority is ensuring every opportunity presents itself for those most in need.
