I'm still trying to process my new life in the city. I grew up on a farm in rural America with three siblings and parents who were always teaching us about hard work and responsibility. My childhood was pretty idyllic - we had plenty of space to run around, animals to care for, and fresh air to breathe. But as I got older, I began to feel stifled by the small-town life. There wasn't much to do except go to school and help with farm chores.
When my parents announced that they were retiring and moving to a smaller place, I saw it as an opportunity to start fresh in the city. My siblings had already left for college or started their careers elsewhere, so I was the only one who decided to stay behind. It took some convincing from them but eventually my mom and dad agreed to let me move into a small apartment with two roommates.
The transition has been tough - there are so many new things going on at once. My first job was as a waitress at a restaurant downtown, where I had to learn how to navigate the fast-paced world of customer service. But it's also given me a sense of freedom that I've never experienced before. Now, I get to make my own decisions about what I want to do with my time each day and pursue my passions without worrying what others might think.
