I've been around for a while. I used to live with my parents in a small apartment complex near the city center. But after my mom left us when I was 10, life changed fast. My dad worked multiple jobs just to make ends meet. He got really sick one time and couldn't work for months. That's when things started to get tough. We had to sell most of our belongings and move into a small house on the outskirts of town.
Growing up wasn't easy. There were days where we didn't have enough food or clothes. But my dad always found a way to make sure I got an education. He believed in me even when things seemed impossible. So, I worked hard and made it through high school without getting pregnant or dropping out like some of the other kids from my neighborhood.
After graduation, I moved into a dorm for college students who couldn't afford the rent downtown. It's been tough balancing classes with an on-campus job to help pay bills. But at least I'm learning something new every day and making connections that will hopefully open doors in the future. Maybe someday I'll get my own place or even start my own business.
