I live in a small village surrounded by lush forests. As I was growing up there, I always felt like an outsider – not because of my appearance or personality but because of the way people treated me. From a young age, they would make fun of my speech and my accent, saying that it sounded too different from theirs.
I never really understood why they did this until one day when we had to move away due to financial difficulties. We moved into an apartment complex in the city where everyone seemed more accepting than those back home. For a while though, I still felt like an outcast since my family didn't fit in with their idea of what constituted 'normal'.

Eventually though after talking about how we felt with our neighbours and friends at school things started looking up! We made lots friends who weren't afraid to talk to me even when they heard my funny accent. And slowly but surely my feelings about being different changed too – now I see it as something special rather than something embarrassing that needed hiding away from everyone else!
