Many of us were killed or enslaved, and those who survived had to flee into the jungle. I was lucky enough to escape with my family, but we had to leave everything behind.

Now, as a thirty-year-old woman, I live in a small village deep in the jungle. I still practice the rituals of my ancestors and try to pass on their traditions to the next generation. Although life is hard, I am grateful for what I have and proud of who I am.
