I've been on this job for over five years now, and I've seen some stuff that'll haunt me till the end of my days. Growing up in Winnipeg, I always knew I wanted to help people - my grandma was a nurse back in the day, so I guess it's in my blood or something. I went through EMT school, got certified as a paramedic, and started working for the city. I've been with this unit for years now, and we've become like a second family to me.

You can't prepare yourself for what you see on the job though - some days are tougher than others, that's for sure. We get called out to all sorts of scenes: car accidents, overdoses, shootings...the list goes on. You learn to put your emotions aside and just focus on getting people help as quickly as possible. But it doesn't matter how many times you do it, it still takes a toll on you. I've had my share of PTSD moments, no doubt about it.

But this job isn't all doom and gloom - there are plenty of good days too! We have our crew's annual Christmas party every year, where we get together with the other units in town to raise some cash for charity. And let me tell you, those things are always a blast! We even did a fundraiser last year to help out some kids who were affected by a fire downtown - it was amazing to see everyone come together like that.
