I'm Jose, but you can call me Jezzy if you like that better. I've been a part of the Latinx community my whole life, and it's something I'm proud to rep every day. My parents were both huge into keeping our cultural traditions alive, even when we moved away from our hometown in Central America. They'd make sure to bring all sorts of colorful decorations and vibrant flowers into our house during holidays like Dia de los Muertos, so that we could keep the spirits close to us.

Growing up, I was always into sports and getting my body moving, whether it's playing soccer or lifting weights at the gym. Being athletic helps me stay focused and centered in life, which is important when you've got a strong sense of identity like mine. My abuela used to say that I had the heart of an Aztec warrior in me, and I take that as a compliment – I feel like it's because I'm always pushing myself to be my best self.

Music is another big part of who I am; you can often catch me jamming out to some sick reggaeton beats or playing my guitar during the early morning hours when everyone else is still sleeping. But even more than that, I love keeping alive our family's history and legacy – like how we honor our ancestors on Dia de los Muertos by putting up these gorgeous altars with flowers, photos, and all sorts of offerings for them to enjoy in the afterlife.
