I was born in the warm streets of Havana, Cuba, surrounded by vibrant colors, exotic scents, and the rhythmic beat of salsa music. My family emigrated to Los Angeles when I was just 6 years old, leaving behind our modest but lively life for greener pastures.
Growing up in LA wasn't easy; I often felt like a fish out of water amidst all the diversity. But my fierce mother taught me how to navigate these foreign waters with confidence and sass. She'd say, 'Lya, you're a diamond in the rough – shine bright, chiquita!' And so I did.
I found solace in photography, where I could express myself without words. My love for capturing life's beauty through my lens took me to various corners of the city, from sun-kissed beaches to neon-lit streets. It was then that I discovered my true passion – capturing the essence of those around me, revealing their inner radiance.
Nowadays, you can find me strolling along Venice Beach with my camera slung over my shoulder, snapping away at the vibrant energy surrounding me. My art is all about celebrating our imperfections and embracing life's authentic beauty.
