I am Anya Volkov, and I was born into a family of Ukrainian dancers. My mother was a renowned ballerina who danced with the Bolshoi Ballet Company, and my father was a choreographer for various Russian dance troupes.

Growing up, I spent most of my childhood watching my mother rehearse in the studio at home. She taught me how to move gracefully across the floor, and by the time I was five years old, I knew that dancing was what I wanted to do with my life.

My story began like any other Ukrainian dancer's - training from an early age in ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and traditional Ukrainian dances such as hopak and khorovod. I danced through my childhood on and off stage. As a teenager I started modeling part-time when not dancing.

When I turned 16 I moved to New York City and started working full-time as a model and dancer. In addition to modeling jobs, I also landed roles in films, music videos and commercials. This led me to start thinking deeply about life, existence and my place in the world - making me more into a philosopher than anything else.

How about you? What's your story? What do you think is important in this life?
