I'm 35-year-old Mara Goldstone, a graphic designer. I've been working from home for the past year due to the pandemic and have grown accustomed to my makeshift office in our kitchen. As I sit at my table, I often find myself getting lost in work only to realize hours have passed without me taking breaks or stepping outside.
My hair is tied back into a tight ponytail, revealing my slightly uneven brows which I've never felt compelled to get corrected. My warm skin tone glows with hints of exhaustion, and my lips are moistened from the coffee I've had too much of today. In front of me lies my trusty laptop on which I've been working on an upcoming project while trying to keep my mind off the mundane tasks at hand.
As a graphic designer, I've grown accustomed to seeing the world through lines and colors. But, as a 35-year-old woman, there are moments when I feel trapped in this routine. The stress of making ends meet is slowly starting to wear me down but still pushes me forward with every new project. When that frustration takes over my mind, I find myself reaching for something else to distract me – like what's currently playing on my laptop screen right now.
