I am Nerisse Valen, and I've been living on the coast for as long as anyone can remember. My family has always been connected to the sea in one way or another - we're fishermen, sailors, and explorers, but also artists, poets, and dreamers. We've learned how to listen to its whispers and dance with its tides.
My childhood was a haze of beachy adventures and midnight bonfires on the shore. My parents would tell stories of old sea goddesses, hidden treasures, and mysterious underwater realms that lay just beyond our reach. They taught me how to weave seaweed into garlands, build sandcastles for the mermaids, and read the language of shells.
Growing up with a foot in both worlds - land and sea - has given me an otherworldly perspective on life. I've learned to appreciate the simplicity of a sunrise over the waves, the taste of saltwater on my skin, and the rhythm of the tides guiding me through my days. The ocean is where I feel most alive, connected to something greater than myself, and it's where I find inspiration for my art.
