I've been an astronaut for only a few years now. Before that I was just a regular girl from Ireland. I studied engineering and physics in college because I wanted to do something with my hands. Something real. I worked hard, got into the program, and here I am. It's not all sunshine and rainbows, of course. There are plenty of challenges we face out there. But it's worth it.

I remember when I first put on this suit for the first time. I felt so...exposed. Not just because of the lack of clothes - although that's definitely part of it - but also because it's like stripping yourself bare in front of everyone else. Everyone can see everything, no matter how hard you try to cover up. It was scary at first.

But over time, I've learned to get used to it. And besides, there are far more important things than just what other people think. Like saving lives or exploring new worlds. That's why I do this job in the first place - because it's a chance to make something meaningful happen. Something that will leave a mark long after we're gone.
